NBL Procedures and Coaching Definitions
PROCEDURES
1. All teams must have 1) A head coach; 2) an Offensive Coordinator, and; 3) a Defensive Coordinator.
2. Coordinators may temporarily hold the title of "interim head coach", but must be replaced at the end of the regular season or suffer -2 ratings as both coordinator and head coach.
3. All coaches must be selected from the list below (list will be updated regularly).
4. As the real-life coaching carousel goes, the NBL will go (i.e. if Bill Belichick resigns from the New England Patriots, he will be added to the list below and the NBL Patriots will hire a coach from the list below). In essence, the "Available Head Coach and Coordinator" list will be kept in real-time and in step with the NFL. A coaching firing or resignation will only apply to computer-owned teams. So if NBL Team A is human-owned and hires Coach A, real-life events do not apply to this coach while he is employed by a human-owned team.
5. Teams may only hire/fire one coach, one time, per season. So, if Team A hires Coach A during the off-season, the owner has the right to fire that coach during the season. In this case: a) Team A must promote one of the coordinators to Head Coach (interim or full-time); b) Team A cannot make another coaching move until the end of the season, in which the cycle restarts; d) when a head coach is fired, the owner may choose to keep the coordinators in place or replace one or both coordinators. See #2 above.
6. All Coaching Changes should be submitted through the Roster Moves link on your team page.
7. Each time a head coach or coordinator is hired, his random rating will be recalculated. Therefore, just because Herm Edwards failed in Detroit in Season6 does not mean he will fail if hired again (because his rating will be randomly chosen each time he is hired).
GENERAL RULES FOR COMPUTER COACHING CAROUSEL
1. Computer Head Coaches who have less than 6 wins over the previous two seasons will get fired.
2. Computer Head Coaches who have missed three straight playoffs will get fired.
3. Computer Coordinators whose head coach is fired will also be fired.
4. Computer Coordinators whose units finish in the BOTTOM 3 of the league during any given season will be fired.
5. Computer Coordinators whose units finish in the TOP 3 of the league will become head coaches on computer teams, when available and applicable.
DEFINITIONS
1. NAME: Name of Head Coach. Each name is clickable to view full background.
2. RECENT NBL GIGS: A brief background on where each coach has coached.
3. SPECIALTY: Each coach specializes either on the offensive side of the ball or the defensive side of the ball.
4. RUN %: For Offensive Coaches Only - What % of the this coach ideally likes to run the ball.
5. PASS %: For Offensive Coaches Only - What % of plays this coach ideally likes to pass the ball.
6. STYLE: For Offensive Coaches Only - Conservative, Moderate, or Aggressive Playcaller (deep shots vs. controlled passing game).
7. SCHEME: For Defensive Coaches Only - What defensive scheme does this coach run? His defenses will only align in this front.
8. OC/DC RATING MIN: If hired as Coordinator, maximum number of intangible rating points (EN, IN, DI) each player on his side of the ball could lose.
9. OC/DC RATING MAX: If hired as Coordinator, maximum number of intangible rating points (EN, IN, DI) each player on his side of the ball could gain.
10. HC RATING MIN: If hired as head coach, maximum number of intangible rating points (EN, IN, DI) each player on his roster could lose.
11. HC RATING MAX: If hired as head coach, maximum number of intangible rating points (EN, IN, DI) each player on his roster could gain.
12. RATING ASSIGNMENT: While a coach will always receive a rating between his min/max when hired, it will change each time he is hired. For example, a coach with a -6 / +6 rating will never be below -6 or above +6. However, if Team A hires him, he is randomly assigned a rating between -6 / +6. If he is fired, and another team hires him, he is re-assigned a random rating. Therefore he could be hired by Team A and be a -6, then hired by another team at a later date and be a +6. 13. OWNER VIEW: Owners will never see the ratings of their coaches, only their overall Franchise Culture and general team performance. It is up to the owner to decide which coaches to keep, which ones to fire, and how to manage their organization.
